Wonder

Students just finished the book Wonder. It is a great book to touch on the concept of empathy. It reinforces the idea that courage, kindness, friendship, and character define us as human beings. The book also does a fantastic job of reinforcing the idea of kindness and how much kindness can help others even if it is just a simple hello or word of encouragement. The value of kindness can go far to help others. I just hope and pray that the kids continue to see the face of God in everyone they meet and how they treat everyone they meet.

Students were given toothpaste in their small groups. They were instructed to empty the containers completely on paper plates. Then they could only use plastic forks and toothpicks to try and get as much of the toothpaste back in the tube. Once we got over the mess, I had them independently reflect on the purpose behind this lesson. Their comparisons made me proud! We did conclude that once we say something or do something, it can't be taken back.
